What’s an early childhood memory you can barely remember?
Other non-related memories include running through a hail storm wearing garbage bags with my dad in Calgary, and skipping stones at my cousin’s lakeside country house near Banff, which had an NES, some awesome bunk beds, and a whole wall filled with vintage Archie comics.
So it seems you've taken my suggestion, that while ago when you livestreamed, and read Bone? I am pleased. :D
I took my sweet time with that book.
As for the Livestream, it was a lot of fun and I’d love to do another one. It’s still up there, too. Unfortunately it got a bit glitchy at times, and it really slows down my computer. I’m working on a 4.5-year-old MacBook and sometimes even running Photoshop CS4 can be a pain…
Here’s the last one! There’s still a lot I don’t know about where to take this story, but I have a gist of what I want it about. Basically, it concerns a guy named Sy (Simon) who has an actual hole in his chest. He begins to realize that he’s falling out of touch with those around him, and tries to figure out why. It’s a bit more personal, so I don’t mind taking my time on this one.
If I post anything about this, they’ll be tagged Sy or Simon, for now.
So. Why have I been posting these all week? (Besides taking a break on fan art,) I signed up for a Graphic Novel course in February at Drawn and Quarterly here in Montreal. In case I need to refer to any of these stories to flesh out a bit more, I wanted to make sure I actually had something written down, and it wasn’t just floating around in my head.
But don’t worry. I’ll get right back to Short, Fat Marios next week.
(Yes, I know this was supposed to go up yesterday, but I was offline for SOPA. Just bad timing, eh?)
For now, I’m calling this story “Darlin’,” because that’s the name of the main character. Actually, that’s not right. She doesn’t really have a name, so everyone just calls her that. This is actually a redesign of an older drawing I did. I liked the idea of having a tough-as-nails female lead in a western setting, but I thought, Did she have to dress like that? Is that necessary for her backstory? …Honestly? No. Not at all. And I’m a little mad at myself for it, but at least it helped get me to this point.
Now overall, the story goes like this: She’s the only survivor of a small town that became victims of unspeakable horrors by the hands of three ruthless criminals. The stories about what happened to those people are known only to those bandits… and to Darlin’ from what she was able to hear from a small distance as her father hid her. Completely distraught and left mute from the events, she wanders the desert and happens upon an old priest who helps bring her up. Eventually, as he overhears the many confessions of his church-goers, he manages to piece together the possible identities of the three men responsible for murdering her family. Now, she ventures out to find them, find out about what they did to the village, and why they did it.
How much is done? Well, I’ve got the end down, and some kind of grasp on what should happen in the middle, but I’m not sure how it should start. I’ve also got plenty of characters to work on and develop. Also, it’s tough working with a character who’s essentially mute. Anyways, this’ll be a nice deviation out of my comfort zone into something a little darker, but it’s still got a long way to go…
Any posts related to this will be tagged Darling or Darlin, unless the title changes.
(Today, Wednesday and Friday I’ll be making short posts about some stories that I’d like to work on over the course of the year (Hopefully, I’d like to finish writing at least one of them). These will be pretty basic, just covering some of the major characters and a bit of the story.)
You might’ve seen the guy on the right popping up here and there on my Tumblr posts. He’s part of ‘Atta Boy, Biff!' a story about a 14-year-old kid named Biff, and his buddy, Zori (A type of creature known as a Whilomac), who he met hiding in his school's library.
Biff’s not doing so well in school. He likes to keep to himself and read books. Zori, on the other hand, is shirking his responsibilities by escaping to Biff’s world and trying not to get caught. All he wants to do is eat candy, run around, and explore more of Biff’s world before he has to go back.
Storywise, I know how this one’ll begin and end, but the entire middle section is just a big question mark. If I post anything related to this, they’ll be tagged with ABB or Atta Boy Biff.
Why are you so cool? May I ask for some of this cool?
Dude, I live in Canada. It’s freezing up here. In fact, tonight it’s supposed to hit -27°C (-16°F). If you want some of this cool, you’re more than welcome. I’ll even make you some french toast when you get here.
Hey, My name is Steven. Can I please request an art? if so, I want like an Adventure Time theme with an pinch of anime? I have glasses, black spiky hair, and i'm kind of chubby, and I have dimples(i'm also Asian so a pinch of that too)! I asked politely! so thanks if you can! :D
Usually I post only my artwork on this Tumblr account while I use the other useless account for random crap. But this time I wanna take a moment to say a few words about the cool people on Tumblr. There’s too many to name but those guys are a “Must- follow”
There’s some really amazing artists on that list, so be sure to check it out! And I’m not just saying that because I’m on the list, too (Thanks, Sandra! :D), but because you might miss some real gems like these Adventure Time digital paintings by Jackiecous.
I honestly love your art, especially your Adventure Time art. I'm a fan of the show since last year, when it first came on. You should definitely join the artists-directory on tumblr if you haven't. I'm trying to right now :)
Aww, thanks! Hopefully we’ll start seeing some more Adventure Time-related art here soon. I’ve been in the mood to draw them lately.
And I’ll definitely look into joining the artist’s directory! Haven’t thought about it before, but I’ll take a peek…
